Terms of use
Warning: Draft pending legal review
This text has not had a legal review yet, so it may change before Escapify opens to the public. The details in brackets are still to be completed.
This English version is a convenience translation. The Spanish text is the authoritative one.
These terms govern the use of Escapify (escapify.io), a free service for creating digital locks and materials for educational escape rooms. By using Escapify you accept them. If you don't agree with them, don't use it.
1. Who provides the service
Escapify is provided by Still to be completed: [CONTROLLER NAME] · [NIF] · [ADDRESS]. You can write to us at contact@escapify.io. All our details are in the legal notice.
2. The service
With Escapify you can:
- create locks in your browser and keep them in your library, which is also in your browser;
- publish a lock to get a link and a QR code to play it with;
- print sheets for students and for teachers;
- browse ciphers, resources and templates.
You don't need to sign up. Escapify is designed for teachers and educators; students only play the locks shared with them.
3. Your library
Your library is stored in your browser, and we have no copy of it. If you clear your browser data, or the browser deletes it, we can't recover it. Export backups regularly.
4. Published links
- When you publish a lock, its content is stored on our server, and anyone with the link can play it. Links don't appear in search engines or in any listing.
- Only text is accepted, with no images or files, and with these length limits: title, 80 characters; clue, 600; up to 5 hints of 200 each; success message, 600; and continue link, 300. That link must be a secure address (https), with no user name or password, and a domain name rather than an IP address.
- You can update a link, which keeps the same address, or take it down, with the edit key your library keeps. If you lose it, we can't give it back to you.
- We delete a link's content once nobody has opened it for 24 months.
- You are responsible for what you publish.
5. Content rules
Escapify is used in classrooms, so everything you publish must be suitable for the age of the people playing. Published locks must not contain:
- any illegal content;
- personal data about other people, especially students: full names, marks or grades, contact or health details, or anything else that identifies someone;
- harassment, intimidation, threats or humiliation;
- hateful messages, or messages that discriminate against people because of their origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability or any other characteristic;
- sexual content and, under no circumstances, content that sexualises children;
- graphic violence, or content that encourages people to harm themselves or others;
- fraud, phishing or spam: asking for passwords or bank details, impersonating another person or organisation, or linking to deceptive sites or malware;
- content that infringes other people's intellectual or industrial property rights;
- unsolicited advertising or commercial promotion.
Nor may you use Escapify to attack or overload the service, get around its limits or try to guess other people's answers automatically.
6. How to report content
If you see a lock that breaks these rules or that you believe is illegal, report it:
- from the lock's page, with the “Report this content” link: choose a reason (illegal content, personal data, harassment, phishing or spam, or other), explain it in at most 1,000 characters and, if you would like a reply, leave your email address;
- or by writing to abuse@escapify.io with the lock's link and the reason.
So that we can act, give the exact link and explain why you believe the content is illegal or breaks these terms. This is our notice and action mechanism under Article 16 of the Digital Services Act, Regulation (EU) 2022/2065.
7. What we do with reports
- A person reviews every report, and we aim to resolve it within two working days. We don't use automated systems to decide on content; the only automatic check is that continue links don't lead to domains on our blocklist.
- If the content is illegal or breaks these terms, we block the link: we delete its content, and anyone who opens it sees an “unavailable for legal reasons” page (error 451) that states the reason.
- If you left your email address, we tell you what we decided.
- As locks are published without an account, we can't notify whoever published one; the blocked link's page explains the reason. If you think we got it wrong, write to abuse@escapify.io with the link and we will look at it again.
- We also remove content when a competent authority orders us to, and cooperate with it as the law requires.
- We keep a record of every decision we take.
- In case of abuse, we may temporarily switch off the publishing of new links. Links already published keep working.
8. Links to other websites
A lock's continue link leads to another website. Before you leave Escapify, we show you which domain it leads to. We are not responsible for the content of other websites.
9. Intellectual property
Escapify, including its software, design, brand and the text of this website, belongs to its owner. The content of your locks is yours: by publishing it, you allow us to store it and show it to whoever opens the link, only to provide the service and for as long as the link exists.
10. Availability and liability
Escapify is offered free of charge and as is. We work to keep it running well, but we can't guarantee that it is always available or free of errors, and we may change, suspend or stop offering any of its features.
We are not liable for the loss of data stored in your browser, or for how other people use the content they publish. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will publish the new version on this page with its date and, if the change is significant, announce it on the site.
12. Governing law and courts
Law governing these terms and competent courts: Still to be completed: [GOVERNING LAW AND COURTS].
13. Contact
For any question about these terms, write to us at contact@escapify.io.
